Holly Walk

Our client acquired a 1960’s split-level bungalow on a fairly confined and well wooded sloping site. The project involved the complete remodelling of the building on the existing footprint, increasing the accommodation from circa 1500m2 to 3500m2 by infilling balconies and creating a third level of accommodation with a new steeply pitched roof. The accommodation of each level is linked by a full height atrium space with a curved cantilevered timber stair projected from a curved wall extending from the lower ground to third floor level. The in-filled balcony is fully glazed as a ‘showcase’ element with sliding glazed doors, and new cantilevered balconies are incorporated at various points to link the accommodation to the landscape setting.

The building is over-clad with a combination of natural cedar and monocouche render to enhance its thermal performance and harmonise with the natural setting.

The garden is also remodelled and simplified, reflecting elements of the building materials and geometry.
